How to Check Turnover on the GST Portal
Where to find your annual aggregate turnover after login, how to read exact figures from GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9, and why the public search shows only a turnover slab.
The GST portal shows turnover in two very different ways. If you log in as the taxpayer, you can see the annual aggregate turnover the system has computed from your returns, and you can open each filed return to see the exact taxable value for every period. If you search for some other GSTIN, you see only a turnover slab, a band such as a range in crores, never an exact number.
This guide covers both: where to find your own figure, how to read it out of your returns, and what the public search does and does not tell you about a supplier or customer.
Your own turnover or someone else's?
Most people searching "how to check turnover in GST portal" want one of two things:
- Your own turnover, to check a threshold, prepare the annual return, or answer a bank or tender form. You need your portal login for this.
- A counterparty's turnover, to size up a supplier or customer. The portal gives you a slab only, through the taxpayer search.
The portal's menus and labels change from time to time, so the paths below may look a little different when you log in. The underlying sources, your filed returns and the computed aggregate, stay the same.
Checking your own turnover after login
Log in at gst.gov.in. On the dashboard, the portal displays your annual aggregate turnover (often shortened to AATO) for recent financial years. This figure is computed by the system from the returns filed under every registration on your PAN, not just the GSTIN you logged in with.
- Log in with your username and password.
- On the dashboard, look for the aggregate turnover tile or panel for the previous financial year.
- Open View Profile from the dashboard to see turnover and related details recorded against your registration.
- If the year you need is still in progress, the figure covers only the returns filed so far.
Because aggregate turnover is PAN-wide, a business with registrations in several states will see a combined figure. The annual aggregate turnover guide explains exactly what goes into it and what is left out.
Reading turnover from GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9
When you need an exact figure for a month, quarter or year, go to the returns themselves. Open Services > Returns > Returns Dashboard, choose the financial year and period, and view the filed return.
| Return | What it shows | Best used for |
|---|---|---|
| GSTR-1 | Invoice-level outward supplies, with a summary of taxable value by table | Checking what you reported to buyers, by period |
| GSTR-3B | Summary outward supplies in table 3.1: taxable, zero-rated, nil-rated, exempt and non-GST | Adding up turnover period by period |
| GSTR-9 | Full-year outward supplies, compiled from GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B | The annual total and year-end reconciliation |
| GSTR-4 (composition) | Annual return of a composition taxpayer | Turnover for composition dealers |
For a quick annual figure, add up table 3.1 of GSTR-3B across the twelve months (or four quarters under QRMP). Leave out the tax amounts and any inward supplies on reverse charge. If you file GSTR-9, its outward supply tables give you the same total in one place; see the GSTR-9 annual return guide.

What the public taxpayer search shows
Under Search Taxpayer > Search by GSTIN/UIN, the portal shows registration details for any GSTIN: legal name, status, taxpayer type, address and return filing details. Depending on whether you search before or after logging in, it can also show an annual aggregate turnover slab for recent years.
A slab is a range, not a number. It tells you whether a business is small, mid-sized or large, which is useful for sizing a counterparty, but you cannot read an exact turnover from it. There is no legitimate way to see another taxpayer's exact turnover on the portal; that sits in their returns.
If you check counterparties regularly, the useful signals are status and filing regularity rather than turnover. A business with a large slab but gaps in its GSTR-3B filing is a bigger input tax credit risk than a small one that files every month. Why the turnover figure matters
Several GST rules switch on or off based on aggregate turnover. The thresholds below are the ones most businesses run into; confirm current limits on cbic-gst.gov.in as they are revised from time to time.
- Registration. Whether you need to register at all. See the GST registration turnover limit.
- QRMP scheme. Quarterly filing with monthly payment is open only to taxpayers below a turnover limit. See the QRMP scheme explained.
- E-invoicing. Applies once turnover in any year crosses the notified threshold. See the e-invoicing threshold for 2026.
- Annual return and reconciliation. Whether GSTR-9 is optional and whether GSTR-9C is required. See GST audit and turnover limits.
- HSN digits on invoices. How many digits of the HSN code you must show. See HSN code digits and turnover rules.
When the portal figure looks wrong
If the turnover on your dashboard does not match your books, work through these in order:
- Unfiled returns. A missing GSTR-3B for even one period leaves that period out of the total.
- Typing errors. A taxable value entered with an extra zero inflates the total and can push you past a threshold on paper.
- Other registrations on the PAN. Aggregate turnover includes every GSTIN on the same PAN, including ones in other states you may have forgotten about. See multiple GST registrations under the same PAN.
- Definitions. Your books may include items GST leaves out, or the other way round. Exempt and export supplies count; tax and reverse-charge inward supplies do not.
Errors in a past return are fixed through amendments in later returns, within the time limits that apply. If the computed figure is still wrong after that, raise a ticket; see the GST helpline number for where to take it.
