Frequently asked questions

Everything about setting up, integrating, and paying for the GSTIN verification API.

Getting started

A GSTIN verification API is a REST API that lets software check whether a GST Identification Number (GSTIN) is valid and registered, and returns the taxpayer’s legal name, address, registration status, filing history, and e-invoicing status — instead of a person looking it up manually on the GST portal.
Create an account and verify your email address. We automatically credit your account with 20 free GSTIN verification credits so you can test the API against real GSTINs before paying for anything.
The first 20 verifications are free after email verification. Beyond that, it is pay-as-you-go at ₹0.50 per verification (₹0.40 at 2,500+ credits) — there is no free unlimited tier, but there is also no subscription fee.
Every request is authenticated with an API key sent in the x-api-key header. Generate and rotate API keys from your dashboard at any time.

How it works

You send a GET request with a GSTIN and your API key to a single endpoint. The API queries live GST records and returns a JSON response with taxpayer details, filing status, and e-invoicing status — typically in under 500ms.
Call GET https://gstinapi.com/api/get-taxpayer-info/{gstin} with your API key in the x-api-key header. The response includes the taxpayer’s legal name, status, and registration details. See the full API documentation for request and response examples.
The taxpayer_data.status field in the API response tells you the current GSTIN status — Active, Cancelled, or Suspended — as part of the same verification call, with no separate lookup required.
A response includes taxpayer details (legal name, trade name, address, constitution, status), GSTR filing history with filing dates and ARNs, filing preferences, and e-invoicing / e-way bill status — all returned as structured JSON.

Integration

Use Laravel’s HTTP client to call the endpoint with your API key: Http::withHeaders(['x-api-key' => $key])->get("https://gstinapi.com/api/get-taxpayer-info/{$gstin}"). Wrap the call in your own service class so it is easy to mock in tests.
Use fetch or axios to call the endpoint with the x-api-key header set, then parse the JSON response. See the JavaScript example in the API documentation for a complete working snippet.
Yes, with a dedicated bulk endpoint. POST a list of up to 10,000 GSTINs to /api/bulk/jobs, get a job ID back immediately, then poll it and collect the results as JSON or CSV. Our queue paces the work, so you do not need to build batching or rate limiting yourself, and pricing drops to ₹0.40 per verification once you cross 2,500 credits. If you would rather not write code, upload a spreadsheet in your dashboard and download it back with the details filled in.

Pricing and credits

Each successful GSTIN verification request consumes exactly one credit, regardless of how much data is returned.
It is pay-as-you-go. You buy credit packs and use them whenever you need to — there is no recurring subscription and no minimum monthly commitment.

Comparisons

Manual verification means logging into the GST portal and searching each GSTIN by hand — slow, and impractical at any volume. An API call returns the same data programmatically in under a second and can be triggered automatically from your own onboarding, checkout, or invoicing flow.
